Christy did it with this one. Good writing, characters and plot.
Great topic: effect of childhood sexual abuse. Many years ago when I was young, stupid, and trying to figure out how to have sex without shame (it was the 70's), I read a book about prostitution. Good book, wish I could remember the name of it. (It may have been related to the movie, "Looking for Mr. Goodbar, which meant a lot to me at the time.) As I recall, the book was based on a psychologist's interviews with several prostitutes. The writer (don't remember whether it was a male or female author) estimated that approximately half of their interviewees had been abused as young girls, many from a very young age. Christy's book is consistent with this perspective. I personally find it very credible. So, she takes this extremely difficult subject and turns it into a solid, intelligent, and enjoyable read.
We need all the Ethan Stones we can get. I've never met one.
We still have a long way to go.
