I have seen multiple episodes of this show, trying to give it a chance because of the premise it was based upon, but this has to be the absolute worse program HGTV has produced. How these guys get away with the stuff they do is something I cannot understand, and I also cannot understand how HGTV allows the shoddy building practices in particular, to continue. As other reviewers have mentioned, the tile upon tile installation, paint overspray, horrendous "design" choices and just plain ignorance of interior/exterior building codes are just a few of the problems this program showcases. And does anyone think for one minute that these two could get away with their brand of circus decorating in more upscale neighborhoods? Highly doubt it!

As a long time viewer of TOH and an old house resident myself, I have to say I'm so very disappointed in the direction the program has taken over the years. As others on this platform have mentioned, it seems as though the producers and tradespeople have forgotten the roots of the show and have turned it into a showcase for the wealthy and their endless financial resources. I recently tuned in to their latest renovation project, a gorgeous Shingle style home where they ripped out the dining room along with its original fireplace, stunning built-ins, beautiful wainscotting and windows; that was just the beginning of the destruction. In the end, many of these historic homes look just like so many others in the long line of homeowner rehab shows, rooms loaded with throw pillows from Homegoods and no soul left in them.
