I loved this movie. We went on a whim with our kids and their grandpa. We knew nothing about the film but it was the only PG movie playing at our local theater. The visuals were beautiful and the story was a little rushed and scattered at times, but I honor the intent to cater to audiences who havenโt been represented well in film historically. My kids loved the film and my daughter wants to see it in theaters again before itโs released for home viewing.
My kids know a fair amount of native lore and they both felt really excited to see the ending of the film. Seeing stories they are familier with being incorporated into a Disney film meant something to them, and I could only imagine how it may feel to other families who have a deeper connection with the lore.
This movie gained a lot of negative attention due to the LGBTQ+ son and that is such a sad reason to hate a movie. Many kids may find comfort in seeing this character; he may remind them of their brother, their family, themselves or just *gasp* not even care because to them it doesnโt matter.
No matter what, this movie is a kids movie. Itโs cute, itโs sweet, it was a fun adventure and we donโt have to go deep into finding problems just to fit our adult mind predicament.
