Since I've been stuck on the sofa with Covid, I figured I'd binge watch season 1 of AJLT. I was a late bloomer with SATC as I started watching it after it went into reruns. I absolutely loved SATC and I enjoyed both of the movies, even though the second one had some awkward writing. It's hard not to love SJP/Carrie. But here's what didn't sit well with me about AJLT: 1. Too many plot lines were so predictable early on, including Miranda's drinking problem, Carrie's final love interest, Miranda's change of heart, and Rose's entire storyline 2. Kristin Davis' plastic surgery is so obvious that I don't know how it wasn't ever mentioned by Charlotte or Harry. I found it so distracting. 3. The wokeness was so overdone that it felt like a moral flogging. 4. Making Che a heavy drinker, heavy pot smoker and obsessed with sex acts added to the stigma that the LGBTQ community is all about sex rather than love. 5. The wasteful spending on clothing, shoes, lavish parties, etc seemed out of touch, given the struggles so many people faced throughout the pandemic. How about donating the same amount of money that was spent on excesses to local food pantries, shelters, clinics? 6. Why was every car and SUV either a gas guzzler or an EV that only wealthy people could afford? I guess wokeness takes a break sometimes, too.
I'm not giving up on AJLT if, in fact, season 2 is produced, but I sure hope the moral flogging lightens up!
