The devil is in the details....
An average performance of the 2 actors
Hart trying to look poor...unshaved and revolted.
Cranston completely forgetting the essence of the role which is born of a trauma. This man used to walk and lost everything. Cranston plays him like a natural, lifetime, disabled person from birth.
The small choices to divert from the original are ubuesque. ( firing him, Nicole Kidman being his long love in front of him)
I feel this story ( true story) has far too much potential to keep it so sanitized.
In modern day usa the scars of segregation are so deep that it could have been exploited even so much more than the original movie.
What can I say...hit and miss. Go see the untouchables if you want to tear up for the human kind.
