This is a very underrated film. It’s an intriguing, but intense movie. The visuals just jaw-dropping. That moment when Soren (the main character) flies through the storm, I was amazed. And then the moment when he flies through the fire, with that triumphant score, and then he flies in front of the blood red moon, I lost it! I honestly believe it is the most stunningly gorgeous moment in cinematic history!
It definitely has a ‘Lord of the Rings’ vibe with its progressive journey thought its world, the stylistic choices for the armour, writing, etc, and the similarities of the characters.
The pacing is slower but in a deliberate way, allowing you to enjoy the gorgeous visuals and detailing, without dragging it out to much. The story is simple but effective for what it is.
The choreography (for the action) is very well done. The combat is like a dogfight until the owls engage each other, then it becomes an agile ‘claw’ fight. Just the concept of owls fighting is a very complicated thing to visualize, but then making it very cinematic and action packed, is a very impressive feat.
Overall I definitely recommend watching it. It is a very underrated film that has so much potential! A second film, if it improves on this, could be an incredible film.
