Jang Hyuk's portrayal of prince Jeongan was an Oscar-winning performance. His acting was mesmerising, powerful, and memorable. As a foreigner, I don't hold any preconceived ideas of who is a Korean celebrity, or who is a senior or a junior actor. Korean names are still so puzzling and difficult to work out, but Korean history is captivating. After watching the Six flying dragons I was intrigued by the complexity of Yi Bang-Won historical character and his place in Korean history. From available historical archives and historical sources, I've learned about his life and gained some basic understanding of the reasons behind some of his actions. So I was completely aware of who is who and what was going on in My Country. What fascinated me the most about Yi Bang-Won was the Taejong rain; it added to his vulnerable side, which Jang Hyuk captured so subtlely and with such mastery that at moments it felt as if he IS a reincarnation of Yi Bang-Won. Never in my life did I watch acting of such excellence, potency and beauty. Actually, I could not believe that an actor could be so capable and so much in control of his character. Hats off to you Jang Hyuk, wishing you all the success in the future. On another note, because of highly disappointing, unnecessary and senseless killings of two main characters in the finale, I cannot love the drama. It was so disappointing to learn that they are going to die that I skipped the finale. I learned of so many viewers left in anguish after watching the finale, raising an interesting question of the depth of drama's fans emotional attachment to its main characters. On the personal level, I experienced the ending as emotional abuse, because, unlike in life, in K-dramas, the writers and producers are in complete control of the story. So why they chose to emotionally violate their faithful viewership is beyond my understanding. The main characters shouldn't have died, they should have lived on - their friendship deserves to leave on. Killing them was mean and inconsiderate. In addition, there were more dead people in a course of this drama than in all the sageuks I watched so far. Totally exaggerated. Also most of the time the main characters faces were full of blood! Unnecessary, overwhelming and so sad. For these reasons, and many more my favourite still remains The Flower crew: Joseon marriage agency. Next time please give us some more reasons to smile at the end..... With love from South Africa
