Absolutely delightful! So glad I finally took the time to download this book to my hoopla account. I had a limit of how many i could get within a month and this one was over 400 pages, so i had to pace myself! I almost thought I'd get waylaid by the many friends Junior had, and not quite knowing where to place her relationship with Ali, but each of their characteristics were important. Absolutely enjoyed the relationship between her and Fletcher, giving a backwards insight into a relationship that seemingly was not so meant to be! I had to laugh at the end of the story when i read Junior's booklist! I kept running across familiar comments made about various books, saying to myself "i think I know that story" because I'd read each one with the exception of Sarah Maclean's. You got good reading taste!!! Can't wait for the next read...

Wow, WoW, WOW!!! If all thieves could be this interesting, I may consider taking up the trade! Talking about continual action and chemistry among the characters, and I am only on page 178! Gonna have to possibly do an addendum to this post, but I got the sneaky feeling how this one is gonna end...Hats off to Ms. Reid's comments about stating her "heroines are quirky black women who deserve a chance to have our own HEA's." I so agree with you...and thanks for introducing me to your down to earth writing.

There was found in this book so much love, from the beginning to the ending, from the telling of the views of bothYasmen and Josiah. Never have I read a story of the feelings of the male character standing out so strongly! I found myself crying for the dude! Depression is a silent and crippling disease, seldom understood mainly by the person who is going through it, so to try explaining how you feel to someone who loves and sees you igoing through, is a difficult task. I discovered this writer's ability to put feelings to paper when I read her King's Men series, so for those who haven't, read the series, get on it! Kudos to you, Ms. Kennedy, I feel your words!

In all of my 60+ years of reading historical romance and Harlequin romance novels, this book has turned my view of such novels on its head. Herein lies honesty!!! I discovered this book by accident, since I like reading about my characters in the order of appearance, after coming across The Portrait of a Duchess, and learned The Rakess was the first in its series. Here is the reality of a heroine, caught up in the perfections of a society that was so damaged, it couldn't help but destroy innocence. Thank you for such an informative book, as I look forward to the other heroines of this book.

I wanted to wait until a had the final book in my kindle before commenting on the 5 sisters and brothers! Hats off to Kathkeen Ayers on such a depth of a book. It's unfortunate there weren't more siblings to the Sinclair clan. As I started and completed each if the siblings stories, I thought things couldn't possibly get better, and the last book was gonna be a hodgepodge of jibberish to fill up the pages of this intensely well written conclusion. Was I ever surprised! My book has ended, and I am not ready to lay this story of their siblings down. Also, I am interested in the solicitor Mr. Patchacho having a story of his own, since he has been in all 5 of the books. I have found a new historic romance author, and I am glad.

Quite insightful...I took my time reading this book. Why? I have no idea, other than to truly understand why we as humans had to take on a different facade and personality, only to always have to portray ourselves as ...humans. I have read so many books in the last 5 years pertaining to us having to step out of our skins and show ourselves as something other than what GOD created us to be, to survive... The strangest book I've read so far was an opposite take on blacks becoming white, and that was "PASSING STRANGE", which turned out to be indeed strange and hard to believe, but it was real. The whole issue is simply that people see what they want to see and believe it to be real.

Such a wonderful, insightfully interesting book! Not finished with it, aa I've only reached the mid-point of the book, checking in at page 269. If the story is as interesting, from the beginning, the last part has to be as exciting, and character driven. I read so many books pertaining to our people, especially anything pertaining to the post Civil War era, and was always given the impression that anywhere near Canada was the best place we could find comforting refuge. Thank you for your book AFRICAVILLE, as I am sure I will be seeking anything else this author has written.

Absolutely delightful reading! The characters could not have been more suitable to each other...I knew it was going to be a good read by looking at and reading the title, and it did not disappoint. It was a delight to see a "brother" in the position he held, considering the time-frame the story took place, being so impressed with both the manner in which they handled the ignorance and prejudices they had to endure. I googled Benito Juarez to get a feel of his position during the time of the setting of this story...very interesting character. Can't wait for Isabel-s story, and the love/hate between the duke and Gabby... Write on, girlfriend, and I shall read on!!!

A rather compelling novel of raw and interesting love. To imagine a woman doctor of color in 1860, that stood out in her profession, while enduring a color that could easily have found her crossing over to the other side, maintaining a personality that showed empowerment in her small world, trying to teach a daughter that was so an opposite of her, to live in a world that would always consider her to be inferior, not due to her race, but to her color.
