I’ll be generous and give Insidious: The Red Door a 2/5. Being invested in these characters for the last 10 years helped me to enjoy their storylines more than if this was a standalone film. The score was amazing, as has been the case with every one in the franchise. The “horror” component really stunk, with nowhere near the volume of unsettling moments and jump scares as we’re used to. The character writing in terms of illustrating how these people have undergone change in the last 9 years was impressive, as in they didn’t have to waste a lot of time *filling us in*. The way they wrapped up the whole plot was disappointing, really corny and unfulfilling. Hands down, the most unimpressive installment in the saga. I’d have been better off calling it at day for the Lamberts after the end of #2 and enjoying the two prequels that came after.
