5 stars; here’s why (NO SPOILERS):
The Idol is creative writing at its finest. The show is complex, and makes you feel weird because it exposes flaws in ourselves as humans. It also gives insight into the corruption of the music industry/Hollywood. While watching, I frequently questioned myself on who I should be rooting for and against.
The actors were exceptional, and all played very interesting and entertaining roles. I would often form an opinion on a character, but then see a very different (and sometimes unique) side of them; which would make me shift my opinion. There were many scenes that were intense, disturbing, and emotional; and everyone did an excellent job capturing realistic and believable emotions.
The directors of this show did an incredible job showing the human side of celebrities. They didn’t shy away from making the audience feel a mixture of emotions - even discomfort. The disturbing aspects of the series generates more depth to the characters, their development, and the complexity of the plot.
Overall, The Idol delivers a mixture of emotions, degrees of relatability, and an unpredictable plot that is thorough and completed. The taboo scenes made the show hard to watch at times; but thankfully there were no corny lines or stupid character decision-making. Would not recommend watching with parents or grandparents.
