Why did I buy this particular book?
I have lived in America, now, for literally half of my life. Prior to that, I lived in Canada for 20-years, where most of my formal education took place. However, it was England, where I was born and started my schooling in the early 1960’s that made me want to understand more of my birth countries history, of which the fundamentals were learned as a young boy.
I picked up this book in a book shop. I read the notes on the back cover and even flipped through a few pages to see how readable it was. I put it back on the shelf and nearly walked away. Fate was not to let me leave it there.
Yes, it covers the full history of Britain from as far as time has passed along records. Some eras are overviews that simply connect eras. Others are much more detailed insights of how politics, religion, economics, wars have all entwined to make Britain the countries she is today. As Britain was a world power, it also reflects very much how Britains history has given and taken from other cultures.
A fantastic read, from start to end, which in this case is after Brexit, for anyone interested in how history affects todays world and particularly anyone looking for a good overview of Britains history.
