I’ll start with the bad: this book literally made me throw up.
I listened to the audio version and the description of some of the acts done by the character of James Harris were beyond horrendous.
I’m not a prude, but I wish this book had come with a warning. It is not for the faint of heart (or stomach.)
Also has some intense descriptions of sexual violence, fyi. Also one of the children in the book is obsessed with Nazi Germany, and it was hard to listen to for me.
The idea is unique, and some parts really held my attention.
I loved the group of women, namely the main character, Patricia.
The setting gives it some depth, and I thought it touched on some social issues well.
Overall it’s a captivating book, but not always for an enjoyable reason, at least for me.
