Tick… Tick… BOOM!
Who guesses Andrew can sing?
Truly, the reason I watched this movie is basically because of Andrew Garfield, my favorite Spider-Man. But I just realized that this movie was good.
This movie is telling you a story about a quarter crisis in life that happened to Jonathan Larson, but this movie will tell you anything before that. He’s a talented musician who dreamed to be on broadway before 30 years of age because he believes that when you are up to 30, you have to know what life goes for you.
He always compared his life with his friends and even his parents. His friends gave up on their dream and finally work in the office and got a really good number and life. There is the day when his 8 years of work for a workshop called “Superbia” is shown. It’s great, even getting recognition from many producers and Jonathan’s Idol, but it is not enough to be shown on Broadway.
After that Jonathan gives up and tells his friend that he’s going to start living like them. But his friend always said “No”, and support Jonathan to keep it up, because they know how talented he is. Jonathan was frustrated but realized something, that not everything has to be 30 years old. He just knew that a lot of his friends can not chase their dream before 30 years of age, because their time it’s not enough. Even Michael, one of his friends that got successful life, because of giving up on his dream to become an actor, is getting HIV.
Jonathan just realized, that everything has its own time, doesn’t have to rush. You just have to love what you do. And after that, his life is getting more and more successful, but sadly the day before one of his works “Rent” got a show on Broadway, Jonathan Larson has died because he suffered an aortic dissection.
What I love about this movie besides Jonathan’s story and the lessons about quarter crisis life is how good Andrew Garfield played Jonathan’s role, his act-out, his voice it’s perfect. And some of the fun facts about this movie is this is Andrew's first musical film, and he’s dedicated an entire year to voice lessons and learning the piano. It truly shows what hard work he is as an actor. He deserves an Oscar.
