I discovered this show and binged the whole thing (in like a week - couldn’t put it down) just in time to find out ABC cancelled it??? What the hell were they thinking?! There are so few good sitcoms on network TV the last 4-5 years, I have no idea how ABC could let their next-gen ideological successor to Modern Family go.. what a horrible programming decision!
This show is delightful, heartfelt, uplifting and actually FUNNY!! It’s a great ensemble cast with a multitude of likeable, relatable characters. I have no idea what the ABC exec’s behind this decision were thinking! Hopefully someone will pick this series up for more episodes because now I’m actually invested in these well written and acted characters and I’ll be so sad if there is never another episode.
Edit:
I am also noticing that there is a trend to all of the people writing negative reviews about about this show, (and btw there comparatively are not as many negative as the positive reviews). It’s all people who have a problem with “wokeness”. Interracial relationships are normal. Queer relationships are normal. Blended families are normal. Featuring representation of people like this isn’t preachy when the show is totally not preachy at all, and this one totally wasn’t. The idea that ABC is going to cater to a bunch of backward racist people and cancel the best show I’ve seen them put out in years is galling. This show isnt overly preachy or “woke”. The overly loud minority trashing it are just behind the times.
I am definitely not a bot or paid by the network. I am a real person and real people who aren’t bigoted will love this show if they give it a chance.
Second edit:
They’re cancelling it to have Kaitlin Olson lead another show? I like “It’s Always Sunny” as much as anyone, but I watched “The Mick” and it was objectively was a waaaayyyyyy worse show than this. I watched it all the way through, it was just okay. My the end of its run, Home Economics had found a rhythm that was actually genuinely excellent! This is a really dumb decision at ABC and I strongly hope someone picks up Home Economics ASAP.. the potential here is off the charts and the cast and writers had really hit their stride in season 3.
