I was quite disappointed by ‘Lord of the Flies’ This book was recommended to me by a friend as I enjoy classic fiction novels.
The labelling of this novel as a ‘classic’ I feel is unfair to other novels of the same time period. The storyline of the novel is remotely interesting at points but, generally, it is quite dull.
The novel appears to have undertones of political power, democracy and human nature but these themes are so subtle that it renders the novel generally meaningless.
Overall, this book has not stood the test of time. At best, it is an out-of-date children’s novel with an unoriginal storyline of being stranded on a desert island. The themes lack prominence and an opportunity was missed for this novel truly to be a classic.
Disappointing.
