I watched all 5 short documentaries up for Oscars and although they were all excellent, The Last Repair shop brought tears to my eyes and left me feeling so much joy. Music was a big deal in my family and all us kids played an instrument. I took my music abilities all the way and majored in music in college. Instrument repair is a big deal and not many people can do it. The people featured in this short that repair instruments for LA schools each had a story of survival and for all of them, music changed their life for the better.
And just as a side note, they provide an unspoken service for the children that play these instruments. It is such a challenge to learn how to play and any minor defect can dramatically alter the instrument and cause frustration.
