Really enjoyed this film until the final third where it really lost its way. The ending made no real sense at all with the storyline giving way to the writers views on society and governance as it was in their view.
I also think the films portrayal of the NHS, Police and even undertakers as the enemy was very wide of the mark. The reality is that the same emergency services the film prods would have been to multiple deaths each day during this period of time. There is no consideration to their feelings with no lines of meaning given to any of the robotic phone lines or npc's cast in those roles.
The premise was that the main protaganist has a hard time of it after covid with many people in her care dying. Well during that period, every emergency service was stretched to breaking point with the same issues.
Sociatally, there was an 'in it together' attitude during early Covid and at times, the film seemed to want to sensationalise divisions rather than celebrating people trying to do their best for each other. At one point, a care home worker follows an undertaker shouting at them and berating them for having better kit than them. This was certainly not my experience of how things were.
Another gripe was the constant assertion that the NHS had 'forgotten' about them. But at the same time, there were massive staff shortages in the home to the point where our protagonist is on her own. We'll, the same staff shortages were occurring everywhere. In the hospitals, in the police and certainly in the ambulance service.
At the end, there is a few lines of derision aimed at the Police. The police officer is being haranged by our protaganist for doing his job. Very difficult to like her at this point. What ever her intention she had, after all, just kidnapped a care home patient with no capacity and held them effectively captive for 12 days.
Overall, it seemed to me that the writers were looking for people to point the finger at, but maybe not coming up with the right people. It's a real shame as I had really enjoyed the start of this and I felt the acting was very good.
