This was a horrible picture. While Timotheé Chalamet channelled Gene Wilder admirably and Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Grant excelled, the movie had forgettable songs, poor choreography, a nonsensical and aimless plot and horrible direction and screenwriting, I was horrified by how badly Roald Dahl was misused. For there to be such an opportunity missed is terrible. It would not be a good film for kids. The original film was magical. The design was beautiful, Chalamet tried admirably. But this was so bad I cannot contain my disbelief.

I thought the CGI was off, the story felt either unfinished or truncated, there is some inexplicable storyline obviously censored about the Finn character and the token lesbian kiss felt gratuitous and is easily cut for the homophobic market. The old cast shines, Adam Driver steals the movie and it is a sad ending after 40 years. Everyone deserves better, especially the audience.
