It took a while to realise this was a deliberate parody of ‘gritty’ westerns. Formulaic, but kitsch at almost every turn. Script, sets, cinematography, characters, costumes etc were all heavily plastic and clichèd from the outset, the production struggled to maintain interest but in hope it would improve, we persisted. A couple of funny moments had it verging on black comedy but the Tarantino inspired gore fell mostly flat. It didn’t quite make it despite a strong performance from Travolta (why would he sign up for this?!) Less so from Ethan Hawke and the rest of the cast tailed off to forgettable. A brave attempt that didn’t work.
