An absolute joy of a movie. Bawdy, romantic, dashing, ribald, rousing and just plain hilarious. Deserving of the Best Picture Oscar it won. Each part is perfectly cast with Albert Finney and Susannah York in the leads, and Hugh Griffith (Squire Western), Joan Greenwood (Lady Bellaston) and Edith Evans (Miss Western) delivering outstanding supporting performances. Accompanied by an infectious and dead-on musical score, England in the 1700's has been perfectly re-created. A sotten Squire Western sleeping with his hunting dogs, and the legendary dining scene are not to be
missed.
