I remember watching a Buxi Jagabandhu play at a School in Cuttack when I was around 12 yrs, in 1982 or so. Can’t believe I am again watching this great freedom-fighter in a TV serial? It’s a totally different experience.
But the serial is actually fictional (using real names of Locations, Characters and some real details). Same is the case with few other serials based on historical figures like Rana Pratap, Ashoka and others.
The audio-visual presentation is marvellous! The background music is thrilling, with lovely tunes for specific situations.
Let’s talk of Acting.
1. Sharad Malhotra is a great actor (who has won Best Actor awards in 2007/2008 and nominated for the same in 2018). I am watching him for the first time. His acting is very, very convincing! He has great intensity!
2. Acting of Sulagna Panigrahi (“Radhamani”) & Chaitrali Gupte (Jagabandhu's adoptive Maa) are also impressive. But the later looks too young to be the Maa of Adults.
3. And Anang Desai (“Raja Mukund”) is a veteran in the TV industry. Hats off to him for surviving so many decades!
4. Child artists Avtar Vaishnani (Kalyani’s Bhai) & Azaan Shah (the bald boy) sound very good with their dialogue delivery.
5. The rest of the Star Cast is ok, but slightly raw in their Acting skills – but still ok. And let’s welcome Hemal Dev (“Kalyani”) to the TV industry. She looks so sweet. Don’t you think she looks like Amisha Patel? Yes, she does!
