"The last solo work recorded and released in life by George Harrison in 1987, CLOUD NINE positively surprised critics and, in a way, most of Harrison's fans, for the quality of the production (shared with Jeff Lynne from Electric Light Orchestra) and for the elegant, seductive and, above all, modern nature of the album.
For many, it represents George's best album since his early (and first post-Beatles) triple-release“All Things Must Pass”.
'Back in those days, a five-year period would mean major changes in trends, technologies and preferences. However, while taking time off from his post-Beatles life, George Harrison updated his home studio and drafted new songs here and there. When he finally decided to release some of them, it was through his friend Tom Petty that he connected with Jeff Lynn (of ELO) and together they refined George's material and the eventual sound of the album.
"In the greatest discretion, and in addition to the most competent escorts ever (the likes of Jim Keltner, Jim Horn, Gary Wright and Ray Cooper), a very respectable team participated effectively in the album project: Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr and Elton John.
'With beautiful ballads, elegant mid-tempo and electrifying rock, "Cloud Nine" showed a musician refreshed, inspired and above all, reconciled with life. If we perceive evident professionalism in the final product, there is also as much serenity as good humor in general. Enjoy!"
