Reposting for a man named Steve smith. These are his words and I couldn’t have said it any better.
“I've read pretentious reviews about the "courage" of the production but I only kept watching out of a belief that something interesting must happen. It didn't!
At one point I was cheering on a polar bear in the hope that it would have a tasty snack & save us from watching another hour of this truly awful film. Unfortunately the polar bear was scared off. I should have taken my cue from the bear and left.
I certainly wasn't looking for melodrama or boys own 'heroism against the odds'. A gritty story of survival in a hostile environment would have been okay. A tragic failure to overcome the odds of arctic survival would have been okay.
But the film wasn't clever or interesting. It was just seriously boring.
The female lead could have been nominated for an Oscar. Except she didn't speak or move.
If you read this and decide not to watch I will have done you a big favour! Or you could just sit through it & wish you'd believed me.
The script was the only thing I couldn't fault.
There wasn't any”.
