Whilst the graphics, underwater and fights scenes are artful and breathtakingly detailed there is a profound lack of depth or growth to the characters. The cloying toxic masculinity with military style parenting, strict (and boring) gender roles and 'guns are good, protect your fortress' are themes we should be evolving out of. James Cameron was insightful and ruthless in his opinion of humanity's disregard for our environment in the first avatar, I guess we know how he feels about women and gun laws in the second one...
