If you can suspend your disbelief, bottom line is it was entertaining. The one star reviews make sense, there was a hell of a lot of plot holes. The whole premise of the film doesn’t make sense, really. I’ll run through why, then explain why I liked the movie.
[Spoilers] This concert with thousands of attendees is a setup to catch this serial killer, Cooper aka The Butcher, who they know will be attending, but they don’t know what he looks like. The gaping problem here is that the killers wife was the one that informed the police he will be attending as she had suspicions he was the butcher. So they DO know what he looks like, and his name…and where he lives. Oops. That destroys a need for a ‘Trap’. Why not just arrest him at his home and interrogate him? A lot of people were injured or killed because of this setup and it simply wasn’t necessary.
There is also the problem as many other reviewers have mentioned, that this top secret trap supposedly organised by the FBI was compromised almost instantly by a member of the concert staff who basically briefs the the serial killer on the whole plan because the serial killer was a nice for a few seconds. I also don’t understand why there was so many armed men and SWAT officers involved for a guy who’d killed 12 people…not exactly the portfolio of a mastermind terrorist that would require an operation of this scale.
Things I did like about this movie was Josh Harnett (Cooper‘s) acting. His character was a little bit silly but honestly really entertaining and fun, I had fun every time he was on screen, definitely the highlight of the movie along with the lovely visual aspect of the concert.
MNS’s daughter was good at singing. It was a little obvious this movie was partially a tool to help grow her music career and showcase her talents but I can’t even be mad because she‘s actually a great singer and songwriter and if I could support my kids to this grand a scale I would to.
Overall pretty alright I had fun! I’d recommend.
