I had to read this book for school and did not like it one bit. Maybe it's because I am used to reading books in the YA category and this seemed much more childish and had worse writing than those kinds of books. Cole was horrible to everyone around him and though I did feel bad for him, because of his dad, he still had no right to lash out like that. I get that was sort of the point of the book but I feel like Garvey was too good to him. Peter had a right to be afraid of him and not want to go to the island. I hated how they were forced to become friends in the end. I would never want to go near the person who beat me into a depressive state. I honestly think that the mother's character development was much better than Cole's. In all this is just a badly written book. It is confusing at first to the point where I have no idea what's going on. I'm also not a big fan of the magical bear element. What is the difference if its a normal bear? I am not going to be reading this again, nor think about it after I finish my project.
