Pamuk is dark, brilliant and sexy. I was attracted to this book in preparation for a first time trip to istambul and his Pamuk's introduction seduced me. When I got halfway, I decided to restart from the beginning as I had gotten bored by the historical details. The love, violence and cultural normes of 16th century istambul were endearing enough to keep me going to it's beautiful ending.
