"I WILL NOT DIE TODAY!"
This book revived my love of reading fiction. I'd grown disillusioned with so many books on the market for almost a decade, barely ever buying any books and often DNFing some I did. AND THEN FOURTH WING BURST INTO MY LIFE, and it all changed.
I was EXCITED about a book again for the first time in a long time!
I RAVED about it. I went crazy and gifted all my friends a copy of the series for Christmas! I wouldn't shut up about it. After so long, here was this book that was addictive, engaging, interesting, funny, and so well written. Fourth Wing doesn't waste a single sentence on waffle. The exposition is exquisitely peppered in through Violet's anxiety management techniques. The dragons!! The men!! The women!! Heaton! Oh my gosh!
And it has everything! War College, Death Trials, Enemies to Lovers, Dragons!!! Magic wielding with Dragons!! A corrupt government! A plucky heroine! A Shadow Daddy! Found family! Cool siblings! Books!
I swear Rebecca Yarros put every single one of my favorite tropes in a blender and created a masterpiece!
Before I finally picked up the book, I resisted for a long time. I would see posts about it, roll my eyes, and think, "No way it's as good as everyone is claiming." And then I went to a destination wedding and needed reading material for the flight, and I thought, "Let's see what all the fuss is about," and oh my god, it's a miracle I didn't look like a zombie in the photos because I was up all night reading this one. I DEVOURED it.
I loved how relatable Violet was with her determination, even in the face of her fear, and how Yarros drew us in with every character right from the get-go. The boot sharing with Rhi (yaaas girl), the remnant crush on Dain, Ridoc! And oh my gosh, Xaden. I mean 🥵 Rebecca knew what she was doing to us with a tall, dark, and mysterious MMC, and I bet she cackled when she cooked him up. I adored the grumpy Dragons, Tairn's snarky commentary so much, and Sgaeyl being all aloof and badass.
If you haven't read Fourth Wing, fix that. Now.
