If u love Amy’s music see the film !! I think they’ve done an amazing job and the director and writer distance themselves from the same flavour that the Amy documentary had Of exploitation. Amys mother takes her backseat, and it’s the grandmother Cynthia that has star position with amazing performance from Lesley Manville Don’t listen to the critical appraisals of this … if they’re poor ignore them. This is a good film with amazing acting brilliantly cast!

I took my 18-year-old niece to see this and regret it. 3 1/2 hours is way too long to hold this particular 18-year-olds attention. It was very slow and I kept thinking why why there had got to be a better way to edit this … !! but the slow burn story line is compelling and the acting sublime. I think a good hours edits on the cutting room floor would really improve this . I was in a brilliant cinema in Bristol, the Everyman … and it was virtually empty. People were sleeping in front of us! there were about five couples there plus myself and my niece- I’m not sure it’s going to be a blockbuster sellout but I’m sure it will go down in history as one of the best films, I highly recommend some Redbull cans, some strong coffee and a pillow I’m going to see it again just because I had to leave halfway through. It. Wasn’t fair to put my niece who lost the plot line , through another two hours! To sum up, I think Scorsese can do this film length “because he can… “
