A relatively slow movie, it is worth watching for the remarkable and uplifting ending. The businessman's daughter, Anne, lives in sadness and regret, reflecting on her deceased father's unsatisfying, spiritually-deprived life. But she discovers with relief and gratitude that he has in fact enjoyed a brief period of genuine romantic love and happiness with her best friend. The final scene where the two young women walk together is symbolic of their renewed bond, engendered by their mutual respect and love for the same man.
