I took my five year old son to watch this; it was his first movie in a theater and he had a blast. Prior to going we had a conversation about not being too loud in the theater; I didn't anticipate that pretty much everyone in there would be shouting out lines, applauding during several of the scenes, and chanting "Minecraft, Minecraft!" as the ending credits started rolling. I had no idea there are so many diehard Minecraft fans in our little town.
I also loved it, it's a fun movie and it had me laughing throughout. I loved the performances by Black, Mamoa, and Brooks. I of coursed loved Jennifer Coolidge's performance (she's awesome in everything she's in), and loved that Jemaine Clement had a role (and that he nailed his character's southern accent).
My only criticism is that the ending felt a bit anticlimactic to me; I can't put my finger on why exactly, it just seemed kind of "blah" compared to the rest of the movie. But maybe that's kind of the point? Like, of course the real world isn't as exciting as the Minecraft realm, but we can still do our best to make life fun and use our unique creativity to make meaning for ourselves, and inspire others and bring them together. So I give it a 4.75 out of 5!
