This film was greatly benefiting from a massively terrific amelioration for all it was put through in late 2019, (so kudos to Paramount Pictures), and I found it to be a thinly-plotted but a nice preamble to the cinema of Sonic the Hedgehog.
When I watched this array for the first time in forever on February 2020, (prior to a certain pestilence that dispersed on the Earth in late 2019 and early 2020), I was practically blown away with how they conducted everything from being a lackluster art. One time, a kid in my middle school said that if that Miles “Tails” Prower wasn’t in the film, then Paramount is queer, (his words, not mine, he was young at the time but let’s merely say ‘NO SPOILERS EVEN THOUGH THE FILM HAS BENN OUT FOR 5 YEARS NOW’), that it’s fine and a mid-credits scene of this film, sets up its successor that debuted in 2022, and then in that one a different mid-credits scene in late 2024 where its to overall: “Live & Learn”.
Furthermore, aside from Sonic and its characters remaining tethered to Earth for over 10 years of it all, it’s a better film than a couple of failed video-game adaptations, (live-action and/or animated), and hopefully the corroborated: “Avenger-Level Events”, will hopefully live up to the hype. With the immense CGI that’s been ameliorated and well deserved when least expected hit me mostly, drastic action-packed scenarios with Sonic and his rival, Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik. And let me merely say that most of the thespians who portrayed their roles as new greatly miscellaneous characters that almost resonated with me completely. With some the humans be redundant, excessive, or merely gimmicks, (understandable but still), Tom Wachowski was immensely portrayed by the one and only James Marsden and that was rather swell for that aspect, Tika Sumpter was pretty spot for her portrayal as Maddie, Ben Schwartz’s iteration of the titular protagonist was rather distinct and interesting for a new generation of aficionados out there, (more juvenile and articulate than I can possibly imagine no less, more room for potential development and growth). And the one and only Jim Carrey portrayal of Dr. Robotnik was stellar that was truly the one to bolster the film of its visuals, (especially with its flawed yet tangible humor that made it possible).
And the music was rather stupendous too, really wished we got more classic callbacks and comebacks from prior Sonic the Hedgehog games and tv series with different takes on its soundtrack, (there was one for a callback in a mellow tone from the first classic 1991’s Sonic the Hedgehog). The emotion, depth, and impactful pacing also was rather nice (unlike some other films that tend to do this every other time when endeavoring to pave the overarching narrative for their stories and what not), took it’s time for when the moment of a milestone was NOT VERY MUCH INAPPROPRIATE OR UNFITTING SOMEWHAT, but still breathtaking never the less.
So overall, there’s tons of potential for other miscellaneous media such as this to rise with its true immense potential so, 7.5 out of 10 for me truly.
