Alex Michaelides has once again drawn me into a thrilling and exciting nail-biter in this wonderfully written novel. I previously read his two other books (The Silent Patient and The Maidens - if you have not read them you need to stop reading them and go pick them up right now!) and naively felt that I was prepared to take on the 'Master of the Twist.' Of course, I was wrong. This book is quite different from his other two and the plot twist that we see in The Silent Patient is not like the ones in The Fury, but nonetheless a meaningful part of Elliot Chase's story.
I must admit that I did experience some difficulty with initially getting into the book - the narration is interesting. I was reading through some other reviews on this forum and one recent publication put it excellently, reminding myself and other readers that this story is Elliot Chase's, not Alex Michaelides'. Do not read this anticipating an identical writing style to his two other books, but read this while understanding that the key to a good story is providing the reader a foundation to suspend their disbelief, to see the story from the perspective of the storyteller. The perspective of one that has been bullied, abused, and heartbroken. I hope you love Elliot's story and this book as much as I did!
I hope everyone else caught the brief connections to The Maidens and the Silent Patient? Perhaps we can expect a book from Alex Michaelides with overlapping storylines?! I would read it in a heartbeat! Although, he has won me over for life so I will read his books for many years to come.
