The title of the book gave me the impression that the author might have unearthed some new details about Islamic history that were previously unknown, ignored, or remained in shadows owing to a lack of evidence. On the contrary, that was not the case. It is a simple narration of a very complicated and turbulent history written with an air of reverence for a civilization that is no more. This form of narration is a standard for Pakistani textbooks and other fundamentalist literature as well. Authors strive to glorify medieval Islamic civilization to make it look as modern as western civilization. In many instances, this book also gives it’s readers the same impression. This over glorification and lack of objectivity reduce its utility for an objective reader of history.
