As someone who absolutely adores the first Slime Rancher, the second game felt like a disappointment. The new slimes are fun and cute and it is visually incredible and better looking than the first instalment, however for what it has improved in aesthetics, it has lost in creativity. The biomes don't feel nearly as unique as they did in the first game and the map itself is incredibly difficult to navigate and learn unlike the first game. The biggest issue though is the lack of puzzle driven storyline. The first game had a clear beginning and end, with each Gordo fed or door opened creating a clear linear storyline and sense of completion. Instead the second game seems to place doors and Gordos in random places that don't bring that same feeling of progression, and with a map that has so many opportunities to add in puzzles and storyline and shifting in landscape, it feels like a huge missed opportunity. Hopefully in the future the developers will introduce new areas that have puzzles like the first and make use of the unfinished mystery's like the giant doors or rainbow crack. For now the game feels like it has no real goal and its main purpose is to look pretty which I hate to say as a massive fan of the first game and Monomi Park, but I have to be honest and say that this game feels like a disappointing missed opportunity which will hopefully be improved in the near future.
