In my review of "A Star Is Born" starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, I'm giving it a 3 out of 5. While it had its moments, I doubt I'd revisit it.
The film delves into real-life struggles faced by celebrities, including addiction and relationship turmoil. There were touching scenes, excellent singing, and strong performances. However, the plot left much to be desired.
The portrayal of Jack's ultimate decision felt abrupt and somewhat implausible, suggesting that his character lacked resilience. The lack of depth in exploring his addiction was disappointing, leaving the audience somewhat disconnected from his struggles.
Moreover, the message it sends about sacrificing oneself for love feels misguided. Jack's actions come across as selfish rather than noble, and Ally's passive acceptance of his addictive and unruly behavior throughout the movie raises concerns about her own self-worth and what this is teaching to women audiences.
Overall, while "A Star Is Born" has its strengths, it falls short in delivering a cohesive and compelling narrative, leaving viewers wanting more depth and insight into its characters' motivations.
