Despite the show being terribly written and senseless and quite disturbing especially with the unnecessary interspecies threesome, I enjoyed some great cinematic effects with the mermaid scenes. If they were attempting to introduce polyamorous relationships to the public, in my opinion this was an inappropriate way to do it. It just didn’t feel right for this story. I do think the writers could have really captured more on the fantasy element of the mermaids lives underwater and added a bit of horror element to it, instead of solely morphing the plot into some weird obsessive, sexually deviant political fest. Everything I hoped the Siren to be after the first series went completely left and actually downgraded the magic of the story. The concept art and sneak peak trailer gave a more exciting unique thrill than the actual series itself which was disappointing. Also the stupidity and selfishness of the leading characters were ridiculous and in fact frustrating. Though I do find the acting and look of Ryn appealing. I had to force myself to continue watching solely for the mermaid special effects.
