While I definitely agree that this show isn’t for everyone, I don’t understand why this show would receive 1 star. This is masterfully crafted storytelling! Every element of the show (even the songs) was high quality. You cannot deny that it is beautifully animated! It contains a phenomenal voice cast, with some beautiful and wacky songs. It has a unique plot that I don’t think we’ve ever seen before. Anyone who claims this show is made for children, and only children, must’ve not watched the same show. While there is a heavy amount of wacky, crude, and random humor, this series also features some pretty dark themes and imagery (ex. war, betrayal, unrequited love, attempted murder, childhood trauma, even a suicide metaphor). The villain of the series, the Nowhere King, I imagine would truly frighten really young viewers. I would not recommend this show for children under 10, despite having a very bright and colorful animation style.
On the flip side, I couldn’t stop laughing at the characters’ antics. There was so much absurdity that you couldn’t help but laugh, but that is largely depending on what type of sense of humor you have. I admit there were some things I personally didn’t like, it did not dilute the quality of the show. Each character definitely has a strong personality that could teeter on the fence of ‘annoying’ - but they’re memorable. But they were all so well fleshed out, and got a chance to really shine.
This show is the definition of not judging a book by its cover. It’s a sugar-coated treat with so many layers and depth that takes you by surprise. Especially in this day and age where it feels like nothing is original and everything is nostalgia-bait, it’s such a fresh and unique universe. Centaurworld is a hidden gem for the right audience!
