I think it's very interesting that people want this to be so similar to the original. I think this takes a somewhat more muted approach to how drug addicts exist as time goes on. I think it's more true than just throwing something shocking and perverse for no reason. We get to see them live in the world they've ruined. I think the trained eye can see the tragedy and appreciate it without the shock and awe we saw kn the original. Addiction is not just the acute, it's the aftermath, the chronic. This is how life might go on. Begbie is particularly amazing in this piece.
