I couldn’t find a single likable thing about this film. There’s not one relatable protagonist in the whole story…every character is weird, dark, sketchy, and a person you’d avoid if you met them in real life. Further, the writers and director do a poor job of explaining or making discernible to the viewer what the relationships are between these dark, misfit characters. If there’s any laudable characteristic about this film, it is its portrayal of the dark, edgy underbelly of a small American town where seemingly everyone is just struggling, barely hanging on to a dreary existence, and life has little value. The cinematography is unextraordinary and dark. It could’ve been shot by a talented high school student. Every scene is either pouring rain or nighttime, or both. The roomscapes are small, dark, dingy. There’s literally not a single bright, sunny scene in the entire film, and the darkness is punctuated by a lot of psychopathic violence with not a cop in sight. Not a date-night flick. This movie’s guaranteed to leave everyone in a bad mood.
