A collection of tropes held together by some decent special effects. The plot is extremely cliche and the 'twists' can be seen coming for a mile. I love sci-fi and look forward to new ideas and movies, but this doesn't feel new, bc it's mostly older tropes and cliches pasted together. There are bits of it that are fun to watch, but overall it's a generic of a sci-fi movie as I've ever seen. It's not terrible, just not good. Forgettable. I am not a fan of Gareth Edwards prior works but I thought if he tried an original script maybe that would change. Nope. This is Syfy level of 'sci-fi'. JD Washington deserves better movies than this.
If you want truly masterful sci-fi, try Arrival.
