I don't write many reviews, so forgive my style. I found this movie watchable, but featuring Hanks I imagined he would channel some of his magic from "Castaway." Unfortunately for me, the magic just wasn't there despite a similar feel. Like Castaway, Hanks finds himself acting alone, this time supported by a dog, and 2 robots instead of coconuts and a beachball. The plot itself is just as Hanks' character describes the Ozone layer in this film "swiss cheese" and may leave many people scratching their head as much as I did. There is an attempt to give a backstory, but it is thin as an empty apology. The supposed 15 years past that left a man isolated and self sufficient is hardly believable... for example (no real spoilers) the main character has to leave his shelter (equipped with food and water, and security) because a 30 day storm is coming. In 15 years prior to that were there no similar storms? Then shortly after leaving the man and his robots encounter tornadoes, and decide the best action would be to anchor their RV in the the wide open (despite having just driven by solid rock cliffs and other shelter). Every single scene had me wondering WHY something was happening with no payoff thus feeling like someone making the film had a check-list to fill: "ok guys we need tornado encounter, blah, blah, blah." If you read this far you may be wondering why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. Well honestly the robot CGI is so fantastic I never once questioned mentally their placement in the scenes. Other than that, to summarize: horrible plot, poor execution, no real payoff for the watcher, all left this film feeling lackluster in my book
