Outstanding historical fiction. I learned more of the true history of the pivotal years of the establishment of the Republic of Texas and the Texas and United States’ wars with Mexico than from my Texas public school education. Obviously written by Jack for a different audience but still an enlightening experience for fans of history. I especially appreciate how he brought Miramar Lamar and Sam Houston to life along with their contemporaries. I can’t recommend this book more highly! Read, learn and enjoy!

Whether your plan is to visit India Yourself or to live vicariously through Mattison’s enjoyable narrative, it is unlikely you’ll find a more entertaining read.
