I have never really been a DC fan or even a Marvel fan, but even without any background to the comics, I saw the shift in power when it came to making movies around the first Spider-Man movie towards Marvel. Then they decimated the competition or argument up until Endgame or whatever the last one was. I think at the time Suicide Squad was also a thing with Will Smith, but I know my very tiny limited attention to this genre suicided itself after... Batman Vs. Superman.
Then I watched THE Suicide Squad after years of not caring for either. Then Flash or THE Flash idk after that Elijah Woods person. Idk, I just know the idea not the thesis of it all, sooo many plot twists entangled (lol) with real life actors/actresses drama.
But boy/girl. Oh boy/girl. This series was just... beautiful from beginning to end.
Very few things I "saw" coming as far as plots points. But, that in itself left this series with a whole new formula that just works without (I) seemingly trying(/I), which, I can tell, they did try, and boy/girl did it Frenchy work.
The characters, the actors, the plots, the subplots, the twist and inevitably turns, only to turn into twists that then only served to twist other turns. Wild. Obnoxious at times, but with such atrocious beauty in its originality...based on my very limited knowledge.
But by, sorry, on God, this show is just a delightful showcase of what can be achieved if you don't try to do things as flashy and tailored to us, myself included, people that don't know anything better than the surface level of comics or lore of whatever genre.
It is genius in that I knew only about The Villain "Penguin," but hardly remember DeVito played him at one point at one time where I was living in a whole different country and was a child.
The depth. The storyline. Beautiful. All of it. A rating of 5 stars brings no justice. This is on a grading scale to me of 100; and to me, without previous knowledge about the events that lead to the events in the series, earns an easy, peasy, lemon Penguin squeezy, 110 undisputed successful percent....so 110%.
Must watch.
