Great drama, very French, it spiritually connects the environment and deep racial memory with human culture and character. I like how the Celtic god of the woods, Cernunnos, the horned one, the origin of the devil image, is shown on a tablet but not named. It suggests that the Old Religion never disappeared from Villefranche because there never was a church to replace it.
