This album is the closest thing we can get to Brian Wilson's original vision for what SMiLE was going to be. The music is complex and you can really enjoy the bizarre sounds Brian Wilson included in the music. If SMiLE had been released in 1967 as planned, it probably would have delayed Sgt. Pepper due to a rethink by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. As an older man, Brian does sound a little bloated on some of the songs like Vega-Tables, and Surfs Up in particular, but it still doesn't sound bad. Listening to the album knowing his story and having seen the film Love & Mercy will definitely improve your listening experience(although is not required for a good listen). You should absolutely listen to this album.
