Ultra is a dark album--made during the band's darkest times. It is also a masterpiece. Some critics have said that Depeche Mode couldn't go on without Alan. With Ultra, they not only prove they could go on but this album ushered a new era in the band's sound. Grungier, edgier, darker and just when you don't think there's a respite... there comes Home to take you back from the brink. Home is without a doubt one of the most poignant and beautiful songs Martin has written and sung. One of my favorite Depeche Mode albums.
