I like modern adaptations, and I like blended modern/period when they are done well like Emma 2020 or Bridgerton. But this is both not far enough away from the original, and it's too far. It's in Austen uncanny valley, with tragic results.
So many things, but the main thing is: The whole plot makes no sense with a heroine who always speaks her mind and is confident and snarky. Why would this woman ever let her family tell her not to marry Wentworth? Girl boss! No limits! Wooooo! *glug glug* They never ever explain this in the movie universe where Anne is brash and fearless.
