It was a little slow moving in the beginning and I wasn’t sure how I felt about Christian Bale’s character. However, I was pleasantly surprised with his character arc. It felt believable. I liked the way they touched on PTSD from the perspective of people who don’t even know what PTSD is. “They say I have… the melancholia.” “No. There’s no such thing.” There was a brotherhood among soldiers from all walks of life, their mutual respect earned by having each other’s flanks. Speaking soldiers… honestly I grew annoyed at Blocker’s soldiers for not being able to fight worth a darn and were dropping like flies. Quickly. I loved Wes Studi’s performance. He was masterful. I was also excited to find Timothee Chalomet in this, but was given a rough reminder that this movie was from 2017 so he wasn’t a headliner yet. All the cast did great. I’m never sure what to think about Rosamund Pike because she has been in some pretty out there stuff. She did great in this movie. Overall, I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend. It was a welcome surprise to get an ending that didn’t leave me in despair.
