TL;DR at the bottom.
This is the sequel to Modern Warfare (2019).
It launched in a sort of "late beta test" stage, and would have been more appropriately titled a paid early access release. Once season one arrived (a month + later), the game more or less fully released at that point.
Season one, and the base game in general, had a LOT less content to start off with than the previous Modern Warfare. With a lack of a lot of features, and a UI that is almost universally hated, it's not surprising that the game has received a fair amount of negative reviews.
At the point I am writing this, I am no longer playing it, and I'm unsure if I will be picking it back up again.
The game has very little to do. Once you reach max level (not difficult to do) and finish the camo grind, there's not much incentive left to log in to it. Even if you have done neither of those things, SBMM (Skill Based Match Making) is so over-dramatic in the way it functions right now that it can be disheartening to play most of the time.
Instead of prioritizing even matches, SBMM seems to punish you for doing well by pairing you with people far beyond your skill level for several games in a row, then going to the complete opposite end of the spectrum and pairing you with people who haven't figured out how to speak or walk yet, let alone hold a controller.
The glaring SBMM flaws aside, there's just nothing much going on in the game. Very few maps, all of which are far too large for 6v6 play. You spend most of your time just walking/sprinting around the map hoping that you see someone before they see you.
There's many more things I could touch on, but those are mentioned in a hundred other reviews/videos.
TL;DR: 1/5. No lasting replay value. Few and far between updates. What could have been an awesome game, released too early with not enough in it.
